Home Modification Program

The Home Modification Program provides home alterations (ramps, doorway widening, bathroom and kitchen modifications) and other architectural changes for eligible individuals to make their premises accessible.

Some things to know before, during and after your home modification.
  • It is the your responsibility to furnish any and all financial paperwork necessary for approval of the home modification project.
  • PFCIL will contact and approve contractors. All contractors are screened and fully licensed, insured and bonded, and are required to follow all building codes.
  • The contractor will visit your property to determine what will be needed to complete the project. The bid will be submitted to the PFCIL for approval.
  • The process to this point can take up to 3 months. More time may pass before the actual start of the work based on the contractor’s schedule.

During Your Home Modification

Once the project is started, you may find the home modification process inconvenient.
  • Contractors will be coming and going from the site at their own convenience.
  • Various types of messes will result. For example, if a wall needs to taken out, dust and debris will accumulate.
  • Noise is a factor. Power saws, hammering, talking above other noises will all be noticeable.
  • Contractors may or may not leave their tools at the job site.
  • More than one person may be working on the project, resulting in many cars at the job site.
  • Contractors may or may not clean up at the end of the day.
  • Once a project is started the contractor may not get back to it for awhile, as they have other projects to complete.
  • Contractors may or may not show up at the same time every day.

Once the project is completed, final clean-up is your responsibility, not the contractor’s.

After Your Home Modification
The work is finally done!!! One of our staff will assess the project immediately upon completion. They will also visit with you to ensure your satisfaction with the project.
All maintenance and up-keep of the home modification is your responsibility after the project is completed.

While it may seem your home modification may never start or be completed, patience and understanding will be your best allies. Many months will pass from the time you are approved until the project is finished. Just keep in mind what the end result will be: EASIER ACCESSIBILITY FOR YOU IN YOUR OWN HOME
